9th Entry Bus Com Class
General Course of the Class:
Today we spend time discussing mainly on how to prepare our presentations. We examined some of the old works of Rab's students. We went through their websites and blogs to develop a better understanding of preparing our projects. There were many graphic designs which was not expected of us to prepare but Rab shared it with us so we have a better understanding. Then we moved on to what do we need to prepare as content in our blogs. Rab introduced us three types of visual content; infographics, brochure and magazine articles. We learnt that the difference was based on visual and content ratio. Finally we talked about presentations. He talked about two main variations in presentations; PSE and slideument. The purpose of PSE was making live presentations and slideument's purpose is for distribution. He emphasized the importance of visual content and title. Today was very helpful for us to differentiate between bad and good designs.
My Reaction:
Firstly, learning about the importance of visuals and how distracting it is to include so many text. I used to include so many text in all my work. But when we expose our audience to so many written content, it is both boring and distracting. Secondly, learning about how important it is to prepare a first slide that will attract the attention of our audience was really important for me. It is also very important for our website too. I was reminded of choosing right coloring for color blinded people and right fonts for dyslexic people. Finally we showed Rab our current presentation design and listed his advices. Our company's name was the initials of our group members but Rab told us that it has a connotation that might be disadvantageous for us. The example he gave us about a car's name that was once created a problem because of the same situation. Our discussion was very helpful and entertaining as well!
