Climate Justice?
In a lecture I recently atteneded, I learned somehting new in terms of the concept of climate change. Even though I knew that countries such as US and China is quite high in terms of Carbon emission, I haven't thought about the big responsibilities upon the shoulders of those countries compared to other countries which are far below rates of the top 3 countries.
When think about how we can achieve climate justice, the first thing I need is the definition. When I looked it up on the internet, I saw that it means that each country taking responsibility for battling climate crisis and benefitting from the results fairly. According to this definition, here are my solutions.
Firstly, all countries need to choose private or governmental agencies that will be trusted by all other countries that can determine each country's contribution to carbon emission. If these actions has to be taken together to provide climate justice, that means they have to accept the regulations which will given to them based on some statistics, analysis and lots of scientific report by those agencies. So that research aspect has to be generated meticulously so that the world union and the trust to that union's research and analyses department (private or governmental) won't suffer from biased results nor inattentiveness.
Secondly, government has to design an education that will cover all ages and share messages through media mostly. For example, in my country there is a campaign called "zero waste" and all companies are supported to meet the standards of the zero waste work environment. If there would be a world union, the standardization can be done in a cheaper and more efficient way. Also there are lots of student projects supported by the government in for all ages. If these kind of governmental supports can be wide spread, more people will be eager to work for this cause because they will know that battling against climate crises through enterprises has got also a commercial aspect that many people can benefit from.
Thirdly, a world fund can be formed for all countries fairly for them to use in their climate change related projects. In such projects there can be interactive museums to raise awareness (a perfect example from Turkey, an amazing museum I visited last week: https://muzegazhane.istanbul/mekanlar/) or that fund can simply be used for better transportation infrastructure, energy grids etc. to lower carbon emissions.
Fourthly, in order to increase the big opportunity in the side of public/private investment, companies and persons who can prove their constant low emission rates through earning certificates by standardization companies or through mobile apps by entering their data on low carbon emission rate, government can reward such citizens with low tax rates, bill payment support, non-refundable student scholarship and such. To connect this idea with the climate justice, if there would be a world union, countries who keeps a sustainable low score can be rewarded with more funds.
