8th Entry Bus Com Class
General Course of the Class:
Today we about discussing how to better design our company's products, solving the connecting dots problem and getting feedback on our product we prepared. Firstly, we started off with 10 minutes of breakout rooms. My teammates and I discussed the problems we face about our services. I compiled what kind of services we aim to offer our clients in the page called "Services We Provide for Your Institution". Secondly, Rab made us watch TED Talks about Marshmallow Experiment and then me moved on to our creative thinking exercise he generally uses in his creativity classes. He gave us couple instructions on widely known connecting the dots with max. four lines activity. We spend the rest of the class completing that 5 step activity which had a constantly increasing difficulty level. Finally, in our breakout room I shared screen to show how our website is formed so far. I shared our main concerns about delivering a viable product till the end of our time. We were relieved to hear that we are doing good so far and more details are to come in the next week about presentations. Unlike other days we spent the most of our time in creativity task today but we had time for discussing our product in the beginning and delivering our questions at the end of the class.
My Reaction:
Not remembering the solutions to a problem I knew the soliton before, continuing to work on irritating creativity exercise and questing my prejudices was todays wins. Firstly, I thought at the first that everyone must know how to connect these dots in max. four lines since this is a widely known activity. However, I failed to remember how to do it myself even though I participated in this activity couple times in my life. Thankfully my creativity started to get going in the other steps of the activity which I do not remember of seeing before unlike the first step. Secondly, I was actually really impressed by this activity, because it ad some lasting effects in my mind. Probably I never had spend that much time on a continuous activity of creative thinking activity that supposedly had to get harder in each step. What I realized was it felt easier each step unlike I assumed. Finally, the sentence that Rab repeated today "if it does not say no, it must be okay to do", or something similar to that, resonated with me on so many levels. I have always considered myself as a creative thinker with a wild imagination. However, I realized that I hold on to the non-existing presumptions I have instead of thinking freely for real. Today thought me a lot in terms of questioning my memory, the effects of continuing to participate in a difficult creativity related task and realizing how much presumptions I have about the problems I face.
4 More Ways to Connect All the Dots Using One Line:
1) Stack all the circles and pass the line through 2) Stack all the circles on top of each other and run the line through the middle. 3) Draw a line through the exact intersection point of two groups of triple circles lined down a line and let this line go around a sphere, continuing around the sphere . Let the back part of this continuing line pass by making an angle to the right or left of the circles lined down. Draw 3 circles in the same plane of the line in the front side of the sphere. Thus, it will create the illusion that they are all standing side by side when viewed from the front of the sphere. 4) Draw all the circles to form a square on a piece of paper and turn the paper horizontally and look at the paper from an angle that makes the paper look like a line.
Here is the second TED Talk we watched in the class in case you want to watch again how important it is to become a team:
